
Spare parts of industrial meat grinder are susceptible to rust and not entirely rustproof. Rust occurrence is directly related to material selection as well as usage and maintenance practices.
Rustresistance determined by material differences Foodcontact components of standard compliant models are mostly made of 304 stainless steel with chromium content ≥10.5%. A dense chromium oxide film forms to resist corrosion, so rust seldom occurs under normal operating conditions, passing a 72hour salt spray test with zero rust spots.
For some lowcost units, cutting plates are made of powdermetallurgy iron alloy or ordinary carbonsteel components. These parts rust easily if not dried promptly after cleaning, and develop rust rapidly upon prolonged exposure to corrosive media such as meat juice and salt water.
Nonfoodcontact parts including machine frames and motor housings may use painted carbon steel. Rust will emerge once the paint coating is damaged.
1.Improper usage and maintenance accelerate rusting Even 304 stainlesssteel accessories can corrode and rust. This happens when corrosive contaminants such as meat juice and saline residues are left uncleaned for long periods, or when equipment stays in persistently humid workshop environments. 304 stainless steel is not absolutely rustfree.
2.Rustprevention maintenance guidelines After each operation of the industrial meat grinder, disassemble all metal components. Thoroughly remove grease and meat residues with hot alkaline water, then drain and airdry completely to eliminate trapped moisture in crevices. For longterm storage, apply a thin layer of foodgrade grease on metal parts. Store in a dry space free of corrosive fumes to isolate moisture and ambient air. Replace foodgrade calciumbase grease for bearings every six months. This prevents moisture ingress and subsequent rusting caused by lubrication failure.
